Homicide detectives investigate death of two-month-old boy in regional Victoria


Homicide detectives are investigating the death of a two-month-old boy at a property in regional Victoria. 

Police were called to a property at Alfredton in Ballarat about 9pm yesterday after an alleged dispute between his mother and father sparked concerns among neighbours.

Family friend Angela Walker found baby Chance Ford unresponsive in the living room and performed CPR until paramedics arrived.

“The mum was just screaming, something had happened and just crying and yelling,” she told 9News.

“Me and the neighbour tried to help him but unfortunately we were not able to resuscitate him.”

The family was seen playing in the backyard only an hour before the incident.

“He’s such a gorgeous little boy.  This is very sad,” Walker said.

Neighbours said they had lived in the area for a year and usually kept to themselves, except for last night when the boy’s mother frantically ran door-to-door begging for help.

“They were like, pretty happy, I didn’t see anything wrong. I would even say hello,” said resident Karan Singh.

Police are investigating the circumstances behind the baby’s death. (9News)

Detectives spent the day scouring the scene for any evidence of foul play.

An autopsy will be conducted tomorrow to determine how the newborn died.

No arrests have been made.
