I’m an American living in Sydney and nothing has surprised me more than this single detail in Aussie airports

An American living in Sydney couldn’t believe how ‘simple’ it is flying domestically in Australia.

Logan Wein travelled to Melbourne for the Australian Open and was shocked when he wasn’t asked for ID by airport security.

‘Flying domestically in Australia is so simple compared to the United States,’ he said in a TikTok video.

After arriving at the airport he claimed he passed through security ‘within 90 seconds’.

‘They don’t check your ID before going through security, they don’t check your boarding pass,’ he said.

‘It’s just so foreign to me because the US is obviously much more strict when it comes to flying – whether it’s domestically or internationally.’

Logan was stunned yet again after boarding the flight and finding his seat.

‘When I got on the flight they didn’t even check for an ID or anything, I just showed them the boarding pass,’ he said in a second video.

‘So essentially any male could have gotten on this flight with my boarding pass, and that freaking blows my mind.’

‘Aussies – I apologise for being annoying but this legit blows my mind. I’ve been to many countries but this is new to me.’

Logan’s first video has since been viewed more than 332,000 times and a conversation sparked in the comments.

‘They don’t check ID or boarding pass before security because you can go right up to the gate even if you’re not travelling – [like] seeing off loved ones,’ one wrote.

However, this isn’t the case for international flights – only domestic.

Many also advised he’d have a different experience when flying overseas into and out of Australia as the security is far more strict.

Someone else wrote: ‘I know over here in New Zealand some domestic flights don’t even have security to go through.’

Others commented on how ‘strict’ and ‘aggressive’ American security is compared to Australia.

‘Travelling in the states gives me anxiety. I was held in LAX for an hour due to leaving my Kindle in my bag. There was a queue and they don’t care,’ one wrote.

‘Our security team are so much nicer than the US – why are they so aggressive over there?’ another added.
