Jefferson Parish Schools announce virtual learning and closures amid boil water advisory

JEFFERSON PARISH (WVUE) – Jefferson Parish Schools have announced changes for Jan. 25 due to the ongoing boil water advisory in East Jefferson. The advisory affects the east bank of Jefferson Parish and will continue until further notice.

The district has not secured enough water for its 32 Eastbank schools, affecting over 20,000 students and 2,600 staff. As a result, the following changes are in place:

Eastbank High Schools (Bonnabel, East Jefferson, Haynes, Riverdale, and Jefferson Virtual): These schools will conduct virtual learning on Jan. 25. Instructions and resources will be provided online.

Eastbank Elementary/Middle/K-8 Schools: These schools will be closed on Jan. 25, including all care and after-school activities.

Families with questions should contact their school’s administration. Updates will be communicated via robo-text messages and the district’s website. The changes ensure compliance with health guidelines and student safety.
