Other motorists sprang into action and smashed the car windows to pull the pair from the burning wreck.
Both sustained burns in the crash, as did one good Samaritan who pulled the little girl from the car.
The child was treated for serious burns at the scene before being airlifted to The Children’s Hospital at Westmead. Her mother was taken to Westmead Hospital.
The uninjured truck driver was taken to Katoomba Hospital for mandatory testing, and police closed the highway for hours.
Police said at the time that the truck’s dashcam was likely to have captured the entire crash.
On Wednesday, police attended Westmead Hospital and arrested the 31-year-old mother.
She was charged with attempt to murder by means other than in ss27-29 (DV)-SI of the Crimes Act.
She was refused bail and will appear via a bedside hearing in Parramatta Local Court on Thursday.
