Psychologist Rebecca Ray says life changes require discomfort, pushing back fear and listening to the right voices

Rebecca Ray’s first professional role after leaving school was as a pilot. She thought a job outside her comfort zone would be an opportunity to prove her self-worth, something she’d been struggling to recognise.

But, though she was great at it, the job made her deeply unhappy.

As Dr Ray, today a clinical psychologist and author, progressed through the ranks, she became increasingly anxious every time she’d arrive at work.

Something had to give.

“I was kind of left with [the feeling of], ‘Oh, my goodness, so much money has been invested in this career that I said that I wanted to do’,” she tells ABC RN’s Life Matters.
