Rescuers bring 21 fishermen stranded on Lake Erie to safety

CATAWBA ISLAND, Ohio (WTVG) – Authorities rescued 21 ice fishermen who were stranded on an ice floe on Lake Erie Monday morning.

The U.S. Coast Guard said the people were stuck about a mile from shore near Catawba Island State Park around 10:00 a.m.

The Coast Guard’s station in Marblehead rescued six of the people with airboat with support from the Coast Guard’s station in Detroit. Local law enforcement and rescue crews brought the others back to safety, officials at the scene said.
