One person was in police custody and four women were dead following a shooting during an apparent domestic incident in suburban Tinley Park, officials said.
According to Tinley Park Village Manager Pat Carr, the shooting was reported at around 11:30 a.m. Sunday morning in the 7400 block of 173rd Place. A man had called police and said that someone inside the residence had been shot.
At least four women were shot in the incident, and all were pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said. The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office was processing the scene as of late Sunday afternoon and has yet to release the victims’ names.
One suspect was taken into custody and transported to the Tinley Park police station.
Police did recover a weapon at the residence, Carr said.
Authorities remained on scene as an investigation continued, and residents were being asked to avoid the area during that process. Police Chief Thomas Tilton said the shooting appeared to be a domestic situation, but didn’t provide further information, citing the ongoing investigation.
We will update this story with additional details as they become available.
