Two men killed in Broadmeadows when car crashes into pole in Melbourne’s north

Two men have been killed in a crash on a Melbourne road, with police revealing the car was seen speeding at over 180km/h just before the incident.

The Hyundai was travelling on Camp Rd in Broadmeadows when the driver lost control and crashed into an electricity pole just after 5.30am on Tuesday.

The passenger of the car was killed on impact while the 37-year-old driver died in hospital a short time later.

Both men are yet to be formally identified.

“The vehicle was seen travelling before the crash at speeds estimated to be in excess of 180km/h,” Detective Sergeant Daryll Out said.

“So when this crash happened, the speed was estimated to be well in excess of 100km/h.”

Police said the car involved in the crash was stolen from a property in NSW in December and that when they searched the car they found two firearms.

“It’s extremely worrying to police we have people driving through these built-up areas at those speeds,” Out said.

“This had the potential to be absolutely disastrous to anyone else in the vicinity of it.”

It’s believed investigators will look at underworld links between the two deceased and the drug trade.

Anyone with information is urged to contact police.
