Winter storm to bring heavy rain, snow to Arizona

PHOENIX (3TV/CBS 5) —Expect a warm start to the week with a high of 77 degrees in the Valley today under mostly cloudy skies. A strong storm system arrives in Arizona tomorrow and lasts through Wednesday. Both Tuesday and Wednesday are First Alert weather days.

Heavy rain and chances for thunderstorms are in the forecast for the deserts of the state. In the mountains, heavy snow is likely above 6500 feet. A Winter Storm Warning is in effect from late Tuesday into Wednesday. A Flood Watch is in effect for Tuesday and Wednesday for higher elevations in northern and eastern Maricopa County where up to 2 inches of rain is possible.

Another storm moves through the state Thursday, with a third storm to follow Friday into Saturday. Valley rain chances are at about 20 to 40 percent each of those days. Cooler temperatures are also on tap with highs in the low 60s each afternoon from Tuesday on. We’ll keep you updated as these storms progress.
