Winter weather advisory issued for 31 Michigan counties


Dozens of Michigan counties will be under a winter weather advisory on Tuesday with snow and ice as the biggest concerns.

Advisories stretch through the southern half of the Lower Peninsula, with some taking effect Monday evening, lasting through Tuesday afternoon. Here’s a round up of which areas have active winter advisories and what to expect in each.

Southeast Michigan winter alerts

  • Oakland

  • Macomb

  • Washtenaw

  • Wayne

  • Lenawee

  • Monroe

In effect until 4 p.m. Tuesday.

What to expect in these areas from the National Weather Service: Mixed precipitation expected. Total snow accumulations of up to two inches and ice accumulations of one tenth to two tenths of an inch. Light freezing rain or freezing drizzle develops this afternoon and evening with temperatures in the 20s leading to slick conditions on untreated roads. Precipitation intensity then increases toward midnight. A mix of snow and sleet is possible at times across the area, although a greater mix is expected along and north of the M- 59 corridor. Primarily freezing rain occurs Tuesday morning until temperatures warm above freezing early to mid afternoon.

In effect from midnight until 4 p.m. on Tuesday.

What to expect in these counties from the National Weather Service: Mixed precipitation expected. Total snow and sleet accumulations of 2 to 4 inches and ice accumulations of around one tenth of an inch. Snow develops after midnight and becomes mixed with sleet and freezing rain toward the I-69 corridor late tonight and Tuesday morning. The wintry mix then migrates northward toward the Tri Cities and northern Thumb during the day while becoming primarily freezing rain toward I-69 until temperatures warm above freezing mid to late afternoon.

What to expect in these counties from the National Weather Service: Mixed precipitation expected. Total snow accumulations of up to three inches and ice accumulations of a light glaze. Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning commute.
